Week 8 - The Art Show Finale

Takedown Triumph and Celebrating Success

The popcorn's gone, the doors are locked, and the art show magic has ended. Now comes the less glamorous but equally important task of dismantling the displays. Here are some key takeaways I have gained to ensure a smooth post-show experience:

Repurposing with Purpose

Before dismantling everything, consider reusability. Can banners, display boards, or other elements be saved for future shows? Communicate this clearly to volunteers to avoid accidental destruction of reusable items.

Helping Hands Make Light Work

Volunteer assistance is crucial for dismantling displays and returning artwork. If you previously grouped artwork by classroom, homeroom teachers can easily collect student pieces. Consider hosting an after-party for graduating classes, offering them a chance to participate in the take-down process as a "right of passage."

Keeping the Spotlight On

For award-winning artists, extend the spotlight! Contact local businesses or libraries to display their work alongside artist statements. District websites and newsletters can also be platforms for showcasing their achievements. This is their moment to truly shine – provide them with the space to do so!

What do you know that you didn't know last week?

This journey through the world of art shows has been a whirlwind. While the task may seem daunting, these strategies have shown me how to create a successful and impactful event. Also, that I should savor the process and not lose sight what the real reason to have an Art show. It's a beautiful celebration to our students' artistic expression and creativity.
